Sale Ticket Update
A Smarter Way to Track Sale Weights in CattleMax

Keeping accurate performance records is one of the best ways to make more informed decisions for your herd, and CattleMax makes this even easier!
When you add a weight to a Sale Ticket, that weight is automatically added to the animal’s Performance tab as a weight entry. Although it may sound like a minor update, having the weight automatically added as a weight entry for the animal makes a significant difference.
What’s New
Previously, weights recorded on the Sale Ticket were just displayed there. Now, the sale weight also appears in the weights section of the animal’s individual record. This means you can see the sale weight alongside the rest of the animal’s performance history, birth, weaning, yearling, and any other weights you’ve recorded.
This addition provides a clearer picture of how each animal developed and performed over time, directly from their profile.
Why It Matters
For many ranchers, sale day isn’t just a transaction; it’s the payoff for months (or years) of planning and management. By seeing the sale weight in line with other weights (such as the previous weaning or pre-sale weight), you can better understand:
- Shrink: How much weight an animal lost in transport
- Growth: How much they gained between stages
- Timing: Whether animals were marketed at an ideal weight
- Planning: How to time future sales for better returns

How It Works
When you enter a weight while creating or editing a Sale Ticket, CattleMax now:
- Saves that weight on the Sale Ticket
- Automatically adds a weight record to the animal’s Performance tab
You can also select a reference weight during this process, such as a previously recorded weaning or purchase weight. When a reference weight is selected, CattleMax will calculate:
- Average Daily Gain (ADG) between the two weights
- Weight ratio, showing how the animal performed over time
That reference weight is also displayed on the sale weight entry within the Performance tab for easy comparison.
Since this is such a key entry in monitoring an animal’s weight history, CattleMax has already done the heavy lifting of adding weights recorded on all sale tickets to the weights area of the individual animal records! No need to do this manually—it’s already been done for you!
Putting It to Use
For the next time you sell calves, consider weighing them just before they leave. Compare that final weight to the last recorded weight in CattleMax, and take note of the difference. It’s one more way to fine-tune your marketing strategy and ensure your cattle are sold at the right time and in the best condition.
When entering the sale weight on the ticket, select a relevant reference weight, such as weaning or receiving weight. This will provide an automatic calculation of the average daily gain and weight progression, enabling you to evaluate performance and timing more clearly.

Small improvements in recordkeeping can lead to big gains over time. This new update is one more way CattleMax helps you manage your herd more efficiently, with fewer double entries and increased insight.
