Working with the CattleMax herd file in MS Access
"I am familiar with Access and would like to work some with my data outside of the CattleMax software. How can I do that?"
The CattleMax herd file is an Access database with a renamed file extension. You are welcome to work with the data itself (data and tables) on your own. Please be advised that we are not able to support modifications that are made to the CattleMax file that are outside of the software.
To access the raw data format, open Microsoft Access and create a new database. Choose to link to the CattleMax CS herd file. Since Access does not automatically associate with .cmdb files, you will need to type in the direct CattleMax file (ie. c:\cattlesoft\cattlemax cs\data\Sample.cmdb).
If you want to work with your own reports, you can use the Microsoft Access Companion that we provide free with the purchase of the CattleMax CS software. The Access Companion links to your records and enables you to display records onto reports you have designed.
