Making backups/copies of your herd file
Making frequent backup copies of your CattleMax herd file is highly recommended. Be sure to use a reliable media, such as a CD or flash/jump drive for copying and storing your herd file. It's a good idea to keep a few previous backups in case you need/want to go load an older backup file.
Backing up a herd file
- Open CattleMax CS on the main computer. Click the Office button in the top left corner and choose Backup Herd File. Choose a location to save the file such as Desktop or in a folder location you have created for backups.
If you are want to save/burn the file onto a CD, you will need to first save the file to a location on your computer (such as the desktop) as CattleMax is not able to copy files directly to CDs. After the file is saved to the computer, you can use a CD software program to burn/make a CD and add the file to the CD.
If you want to email the file, open your email program and choose to attach the CattleMax backup file to the message.
Backing up custom reports
- If you have custom reports you want to copy/backup as well, click the Reports tab and click MS Access Companion. Click the Tools tab, and then the "Backup all custom reports and queries" button. Choose a location to save the file, such as the desktop.
Note
Pictures are not included in the CattleMax file backup process due to the extremely large size of images. The CattleMax backup file only includes the link to where the picture is located - not the actual picture itself.
Be sure you make backups of the pictures, which is a separate process from backing up your herd file.
