Installing and updating CattleMax

Copying/restoring your herd file and custom reports to another computer

Follow the steps for making a backup of the herd file on the original/main computer (see the "Making backups/copies of your herd file" link).

To copy/restore a herd file onto another computer:

- Open the CattleMax CS software. Click the Office button in the top left corner of the screen and choose Restore Backup file and locate the file.

If the file is on a CD, you will first need to copy the file onto the computer and then choose the location of the file as CattleMax is not able to read files directly from a CD.

To copy a file from a CD onto the computer, insert the CD. Right click on the file and choose Copy. Go to a location on the computer (such as the desktop), right click and choose Paste. In the CattleMax Restore screen, choose the location of where you saved the file.

If the file is in an email message, save the file to the computer, such as the desktop.

- After the restore process is complete, click the Office button, choose Open Herd File and select your file.

To copy/restore a custom reports file onto another computer:

- Open the CattleMax CS software. Click the Reports tab and choose MS Access Companion. Click on the Tools button and click the "Restore all custom reports and queries" button.

If the file is on a CD, you will first need to copy the file onto the computer and then choose the location of the file as CattleMax is not able to read files directly from a CD.

To copy a file from a CD into the computer, insert the CD. Right click on the file and choose Copy. Go to a location on the computer (such as the desktop), right click and choose Paste. In the CattleMax Restore Custom Reports screen, choose the location of where you saved the file.

If the file is in an email message, save the file to the computer, such as the desktop.

Note

Be aware that restoring a CattleMax file onto the second computer will overwrite the existing file that's on the computer (if there is one already there). There is not a way for CattleMax to "merge" changes that were made on 2 separate (non-networked) computers at the same time. Changes made to a herd file that is being accessed by networked computers receives changes in real-time.
