Customer Success Story: Hilliard Ranches
Jim Howell of Hilliard Ranches is the definition of
a loyal customer. Howell has been a CattleMax
customer from the very beginning, and continues to
profess his trust and loyalty in the leading cattle
management software program.
Howell is the ranch manager for all ten Hilliard Ranches locations in
Milam County, Texas, a 550 commercial cow operation.
Howell said that before CattleMax, they kept cattle
records using Big Chief tablets and number 2
pencils.
He said, "Even cowboys need computers these days. Ranching and cattle
business is like any other business-you have to
adapt to changes."
Howell began using CattleMax in 1999 as the very first CattleMax
customer, and noticed changes in his record keeping
efficiency almost immediately. He was soon able to
generate a calf sale list in only seconds when the
process had previously consumed many hours.
He said he appreciated Cattlesoft and their ability to try a new
adventure and make it successful.
"We had the pleasure of working with [Cattlesoft] from the beginning
of CattleMax," he said, "It is astonishing to see
how far they have come with the business."
Howell has taken every opportunity to improve his records by staying
up-to-date with CattleMax upgrades and using the
newest versions of the software.
"Most businesses have to change with the time," he said, "Things like
bull sires, records and the way cattle are worked
all have to change with the times and demand."
He said his favorite feature of CattleMax is the herd update because
of its ease of use, but Hilliard Ranches has found
every aspect of CattleMax and computerized record
keeping beneficial in their operation.
"I have benefited from CattleMax by being able to reduce time and more
accurately keep records on 550 cows and 10 different
ranches," Howell said.
