Customer Success Story: Broken Oak Ranch
Between his real estate and construction business,
Larry Struthoff also manages roughly 500 head of
Braunvieh cattle near Seguin, TX.
Broken Oak Ranch consists of 350 mother cows,
100 replacement heifers and 25 bulls, and has been
in business for 11 years. Struthoff said that Broken
Oak had to downsize some recently, due to the
drought that hit much of Texas, and was detrimental
to some grazing lands.
Before finding CattleMax by talking to other
ranchers, Struthoff kept his cattle records in an
Excel spreadsheet, and easily made the transition to
a software program.
“It [CattleMax] has allowed us to cut or data
entry time into a quarter of what it used to be,” he
said.
Struthoff said his favorite feature of
CattleMax is the ease of operation and detailed
information it provides.
“It has worked so successfully for our
registered herd that we are also using it for our
commercial operation,” he said, “It has done a
wonderful job of keeping breeding, calving, and
inventory records.”
He said he uses the cattle inventory and
cow/calf reports most often to track and manage his
cattle, but finds other features beneficial as well.
“The sales catalog function has really helped
at production sale time,” Struthoff said.
He said he has recommended CattleMax to other
ranchers many times, and suggests that once they
start using the software, they enter updated
information regularly to ensure good cattle records.
“[CattleMax is] a must buy for any seedstock
producer,” Struthoff said.
